Gas Leak Detection
|
Gas leak detection is the process of identifying potentially hazardous gas leaks
by means of various sensors. These sensors usually employ an audible alarm to alert
people when a dangerous gas has been detected. Common sensors used today include
Infrared Point Sensor, Ultrasonic gas detectors, Electrochemical gas detectors,
and Semiconductor Sensors. More recently, infrared imaging sensors have come into
use. All of these sensors are used for a wide range of applications, and can be
found in industrial plants, refineries, wastewater treatment facilities, vehicles,
and around the home.

Gas detector is suitable for gas detection in Refineries, Chemical plant, LPG station,
Gas Boiler, and Spray-Paints etc where gas leakage is possible. It reads the gas
concentration in Air and transmits to a detection panel over digital bus. This detector,
adopting semiconductor or catalytic gas sensor, has advantages of good reproducibility,
good performance against changes in temperature and humidity. It has long life-span
and easy operation. Relay output provided can be connected to the Gas Detection
Panel. Optionally RS485 or 4-20mA output could be provided.
Commercial Gas Leak Detectors
Safety of commercial kitchens & premises is of prime importance these days. Our
LPG/PNG/CO/ CO2 & VOC detectors can detect respective gases and warn before the
gas density in air reaches unwanted levels. In addition it provides early warnings
by detection of Heat in case of LPG/PNG detectors.

Sensors for following gases are available.
- LPG/PNG
- Methane
- Isopropyl/Ethyl Alcohol
- CO (Carbon Monoxide)
- Hydrogen
- Acetone
- Toluene
- Ammonia

GAS MONITORING CATEGORIES
Combustible/ Flammable Gas
- Explosive hazard.
- To avoid an explosion, atmospheric levels must be maintained below the lower explosive limit (LEL) for each gas, or purged of oxygen.
- Generally measured as 0-100% of the lower explosive limit or in part per million range.
- Combustible gas monitors are designed to alarm before a potential explosive condition occurs.
- e.g. Methane (natural gas), Butane, Propane, LPG, CNG, PNG, LNG, Petrol Vapour
Toxic/ Irritant Gases
- Hazardous to human health; worker exposure must be monitored.
- Typically measured in the part per million (ppm) range.
- Some toxic gas monitors can calculate the average exposure over time, providing short-term exposure limit (STEL) and time-weighted average (TWA) readings.
- e.g. Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, Carbon Dioxide, Chlorine, Hydrogen Sulphide, Ammonia, Nitrogen Dioxide, SOx, NOx
Asphyxiant (Oxygen)
- Atmospheres containing too little oxygen (less than 19.5% oxygen by volume) are
considered “oxygen deficient” and interfere with normal human respiration.
- Atmospheres containing too much oxygen (more than 25% oxygen by volume) are considered “oxygen enriched” and possess an increased risk of explosion
- Measured in the percent volume range (normal oxygen percentage in air is 20.8% by volume at sea level).
- Oxygen monitors are generally set to alarm if the atmosphere contains either too little or too much oxygen.
Industrial Gas Leak Detectors
Industrial Gas Leak Detectors is suitable for gas detection in Refineries, Chemical

It reads the gas concentration in Air and transmits to a detection panel over digital
bus. This detector, adopting semiconductor or catalytic gas sensor, has advantages
of good reproducibility, good performance against changes in temperature and humidity.
It has long life-span and easy operation. We provide optimal systems for a broad
range of needs, from stand-alone Units for a single type of gas to large-scale systems
integrating several hundred gas detectors.
Commercial Gas Leak Detectors
Gas Leak Detector is positioned in such a way that gas leakage is detected as soon
as possible. The output of the detector drives the control valve. Control Valve
is fitted in the gas line. Once the leakage is detected, the valve cuts off the
gas supply in less than 1 second by shutting off the valve. The valve can be reset
or opened only manually then. This provides additional safety and allows manual
inspection before resuming the gas supply. The detector also provides bargraph indication
of concentration of the gas. Indication for four levels, i.e., 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and
10% of volume are provided. Integrated flasher and buzzer provides indication when
concentration crosses 10% of LEL. Commercial Grade Gas Leak Detectors use better
quality sensors suitable for commercial use. Sensor is more reliable, consistent
and accurate. These are also capable of integrating with Building Management Systems
(BMS). They are useful in following applications.
